CCTV installation cost UK 2026: what actually drives your price

What determines CCTV installation cost for UK homes and businesses in 2026 — property factors, system types, quote tricks to avoid, and how to get an exact fixed price on WhatsApp in minutes.

Why we quote per property, not per advert

Two identical-looking houses can cost meaningfully different amounts to fit: one has loft access and easy cable runs, the other has solid walls and finished rooms in the way. Advertised 'from' prices are how the trade wins the phone call and loses your trust at the survey. We work the other way round: message us on WhatsApp with your postcode and what you want covered, and you get an exact fixed figure — in writing, usually within minutes.

Whatever the figure is, it includes cameras, installation, app setup, VAT and the 5-year warranty. If a quote you're comparing looks dramatically cheaper, check what's been left out — the trade's favourite omissions are listed below.

What moves the price up or down

Cable runs are the biggest variable: a bungalow with easy loft access costs less to wire than a three-storey townhouse where cables cross finished rooms. Wall construction matters too — Victorian solid brick and modern insulated render both slow drilling. Camera spec is the other lever: 4K sensors, colour night vision and person-detection analytics cost more than basic HD, and are usually worth it on the cameras that matter most.

Things that shouldn't move the price: your postcode (we charge the same fixed rates nationwide), 'waste disposal', 'configuration fees', or any line item invented after the survey. A fixed quote means fixed.

Quote tricks to watch for

Day-rate quotes ('a day rate plus materials') hide the total until it's too late to say no. Hardware-only prices quietly exclude installation. 'Free' systems bundle expensive multi-year monitoring contracts. And the most common trick of all: quoting cameras without the recorder, storage or app configuration that make them useful.

Ask any installer three questions: Is this the total invoice figure? What warranty covers parts and labour? Who do I call in year three when a camera fails? The answers separate professionals from van-and-a-drill operations faster than any review site.

Where it's worth spending more

Spend on the doorbell and the camera covering your main approach — they capture faces at identification distance and do the most work. Spend on storage (30 days beats 7 the week you return from holiday to a break-in that happened on day 8). Spend on the install quality itself: tidy, hidden cabling isn't cosmetic, it's what stops a burglar unplugging your security with one tug.

Save on cameras watching low-risk zones — a garden view camera doesn't need 4K analytics — and skip monitored contracts for ordinary homes unless you're regularly away; smart alerts to your phone cover most households well.
